Bitcoin has the best-timestamped birth chart in existence. We tested it against 15 years of price, and nothing beat chance.
The genesis block is cryptographically fixed at 2009-01-03 18:15:05 UTC — not a reconstruction, a verifiable moment. So we pre-registered 17 astrological hypotheses, computed every exact transit to that chart with NASA JPL DE440S, and joined them to 5,479 days of real BTC/USD closes. Here is the whole result, denominators and nulls included.
Historical analysis, not financial advice. Every figure on this page looks backwards at data that already happened. Nothing here is a forecast, a signal, or a statement about what Bitcoin will do next, and it must not be used to make an investment decision.
The evidence, before the method

Block 0, nTime 1231006505 = 18:15:05 UTC. The chart this page reads. There are deliberately no houses, Ascendant or Midheaven: a block has a timestamp, but no birthplace. The wheel plots only the ecliptic positions and aspects the data can support.
1,416 of 5,479 ordinary days were followed by a move above 10.0%. A transit has to beat this reference—not merely sit near a dramatic date.

The dots land on both sides of the baseline. That variation is expected when many hypotheses are tested; the corrected result remains 0of 17.
This page is the test, and it is deliberately a null result. The reading is a separate page: the natal chart in full, 13 natal aspects, 209 outer-planet passages across 6,443 days and all 17 solar returns — each era laid against the dated price record, with the exact dates, orbs and the BTC close on the day.
It is interpretation, not prediction, and every striking fit on it links back to the null result below. Read them together: that is the point of publishing both.
Almost every astrological claim rests on a birth time somebody wrote down from memory. Bitcoin's does not. The genesis block carries a timestamp inside the block header itself, and the whole network agrees on it. That makes it the one chart where the input is not in dispute — which is exactly what you want if the point is to test the method rather than decorate a conclusion.
The limitation we cannot engineer around: there is no birthplace
A block header has a time. It has no location. The Ascendant, the Midheaven and all twelve house cusps are computed from the observer's longitude and latitude, so for this chart they are undefined — not unknown-but-guessable, genuinely undefined. Picking Greenwich, or Satoshi's supposed whereabouts, would be inventing data.
So this study tests only location-independent factors: transiting planets to natal planets. No angles, no houses, no Midheaven, and no rising sign. Roughly half of what a conventional astrologer would say about Bitcoin is therefore off the table here — correctly.

Computed geocentrically from the NASA JPL DE440S ephemeris — the same kernel that runs everything else on this site. The Sun at 13°31′ Capricorn is the check you can repeat in any ephemeris you trust.
The Moon is the one placement genuinely sensitive to the exact minute: it moves about 13° a day, so a timestamp error of an hour shifts it by half a degree. It is excluded from the primary hypotheses and tested separately, flagged, below.
What we fixed before looking
Astrology's oldest trick is showing six dramatic coincidences and never mentioning how many chances there were. The only defence is to write the hypothesis list down first and then publish whatever comes out of it. That list lives in the repository as a constant, _data/prereg.py, and it was fixed before the price series was joined to a single transit. Nothing was added, dropped or re-tuned afterwards.
Natal targets (9): Sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto — every location-independent planet. Natal Moon is a flagged secondary set.
Aspects: hard = conjunction, square, opposition (0°/90°/180°); soft = sextile, trine (60°/120°).
Orb: 1°. An event is the day the aspect actually perfects inside that orb, so a retrograde triple-pass counts as three events, not one long one.
Outcome: the absolute log return over the following 7 days. A “big move” is greater than 10.0% in either direction — up or down; this study takes no view on which.
Grouping: hypotheses are one transiting body × one aspect class, pooled over natal targets. Testing each of the ~250 individual planet pairs would leave most of them with one or two occurrences in 15 years, which can prove nothing in either direction.
Price: Bitstamp public OHLC API, BTC/USD daily close, 2011-08-18 to 2026-08-24 (5,486 daily closes, $10.90 → $77,907). Not simulated, not back-filled, not adjusted.
The sample starts in August 2011 because that is the first daily BTC/USD candle the exchange actually publishes. Earlier 2009–2010 prints exist only as thin, irregular quotes on venues that no longer exist, and we would rather have a shorter honest series than a longer invented one.

The base rate comes first
Every number further down is meaningless without this one. Across the whole sample, 1,416 of 5,479 days — 25.8% — were followed by a move of more than 10.0% within 7 days.
That is the answer to “the price moved right after the transit!” Bitcoin moves more than 10% in a week about a quarter of the time, on no provocation at all. Pick any date in the last fifteen years at random and you have a one-in-four chance of looking prophetic. A transit has to clear that bar, not the bar of “something happened.”

The gold segment is not a forecast. It is the historical hurdle every transit row has to clear. A dramatic date beside a transit is unremarkable until its full set of dates beats this ordinary-day reference.
Signal versus noise · editorial illustration, not data
The gold band along the base is not a design flourish — it is every exact outer-planet transit to a natal Bitcoin planet, and there are 170 of them. “Rare” slow transits are not rare once you count all of them instead of the one nearest a headline.

Reading this table honestly
All 17 rows are indistinguishable from chance. Not one hypothesis reached even the uncorrected p < 0.05 threshold, let alone the corrected one.
On multiple comparisons: we tested 17 hypotheses. Testing twenty things at p < 0.05 is expected to produce roughly one “significant” result from noise alone, which is how most astro-finance charts get made. A Bonferroni correction sets the bar at 0.05 / 17 = 0.0029. In this case the correction never had to do any work: the smallest p-value we observed was 0.059. These are simple two-sided binomial tests against the base rate, and we are not going to dress them up as more than that.
The closest thing to a signal in the whole set is transiting Mars in hard aspect — 94 of 307 occurrences, 30.6% against a 25.8% base, p = 0.059. That is the kind of result that becomes a viral thread if you report it on its own and never mention the other sixteen. Reported alongside them, it is exactly what sixteen coin flips look like when one of them lands slightly to one side.

The denominators above are smaller than they look
Every test on this page is a binomial test, and a binomial test assumes its trials are independent. For transits they are not, and the reason is mechanical: an outer planet crosses the same natal point up to three times — direct, then retrograde, then direct again — over a matter of months. That is one approach of one planet to one point. Counted as three, it inflates the denominator while the sky did a single thing.
So we re-counted. Passes belonging to a single approach collapse into one trial, using a window set per body: above its retrograde loop, so one approach merges, and below its synodic return, so a genuine recurrence survives. The Sun never retrogrades, so none of its crossings are ever merged — its rows come through at 1.0×, which is the check that the rule is not simply deleting data. Across the rows that collapse at all, the real number of independent trials is 1.1× to 4.0× smaller than the column above suggests: 2,047 events are 1,717 independent trials.

Why this cannot be sold as a rescue
The re-count moves p-values in both directions: 4 of 17 rows become more nominally significant. That is why the registered result stays the published result and this remains a diagnostic beside it.
This is a diagnostic, not a second run of the study
It is not one of the 17 pre-registered tests. The pre-registered p-values stay the published p-values, and this sits beside them. That distinction is doing real work here, so it is worth being blunt about why: the re-count does not always move against us. It moves p in both directions — 4 of the 17 rows come out more nominally significant after it, not less. An earlier draft of this method claimed the correction could only ever weaken a result. That was wrong, and our own numbers disproved it.
Which is exactly why the pre-registered figure is the one we publish. A correction you only apply when it flatters you is not a correction, and a safeguard that holds only when it costs nothing was never a safeguard.

The row this matters most for is transiting Mars in hard aspect, because it is the closest thing to a signal in the set and because Mars retrogrades. Its registered result is p = 0.0587, and that remains the published figure for this study. Re-counted, its 307 occurrences are 251 independent trials and it reads 0.0436. Neither number is close to the bar. With 17 hypotheses the corrected threshold is 0.0029, so 0.0436 is still more than fifteen times away from it — and testing 17 things at p < 0.05 is expected to throw up 0.85 rows near that mark by chance alone. We have one. Nothing here survives correction, on either count.

What this does and does not show
A null result answers the question that was actually registered. It does not silently widen into a verdict on every form of astrology, every market, or every possible threshold.
It is a null result, not a disproof. We tested one specific outcome (a >10.0% move within 7 days) against one specific hypothesis list. A different threshold, horizon or orb is a different experiment, and running twenty of those until one works is precisely the practice this page exists to avoid.
No angles, no houses. Undefined without a birthplace, as above. If you have seen a Bitcoin chart with a rising sign on it, somebody chose that longitude.
Overlapping windows. Consecutive events share forward return periods, so the effective sample is smaller than n suggests. This makes the tests slightly anti-conservative — which only matters for finding effects, and we found none.
One asset, one chart. Fifteen years is a long time for Bitcoin and a short time for statistics, particularly for Neptune and Pluto, which manage barely a dozen exact aspects in the entire sample. Those rows genuinely cannot resolve a small effect, and we would say so if the numbers had come out the other way.
We would have published the opposite. The pre-registration is in the repository with the analysis script and the raw price pull, dated before the join. If a row had cleared the corrected threshold it would be at the top of this page instead.
